National Data Survey collateral – The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono
About
The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono approached us to evolve the design of their flagship annual Perceptions of Asia and Asian Peoples Survey report.
With over a thousand interviews conducted for the report, the Foundation needed to present a high volume of data in a clear and engaging way, promoting both the key survey messages and their wider work. Due to the fast-changing political landscape, a supplementary survey was conducted just as we were beginning the project, creating a second set of data to be woven into the results.
For 2025, the Foundation also launched a revised communications strategy focused on promoting its research, making this year’s report more high-profile than ever.
Approach
We worked closely with the client to present different layout approaches, keeping the large amount of complex data easy to access and understand front of mind at every stage.
Simplifying the name of the report to ‘Perceptions of Asia’ was the first step towards a clearer, more modern approach to what had become a very dense and daunting document of facts and figures. We also proposed a more structured, user-friendly way to group the content.
We helped craft a coherent story from beginning to end, guiding the audience through the wide range of topics. We carefully worked through huge amounts of data to consider how it should be visualised to complement the overall narrative, and developed graphics that would translate effectively to other collateral, including a social media campaign.
Outcomes
Throughout the process we always kept the Foundation’s vision front of mind: helping New Zealanders become confident, capable and connected across Asia.
By crafting a clear structure, and carefully considering how to visualise the complex data within the report, we’ve helped the Foundation paint a clear picture of how New Zealanders view Asia.
This engaging, professional and easy-to-navigate publication also helps reinforce the Foundation’s position as the leading provider of Asia insights.
