Fieldays Forestry Hub Forest Growers Association

About
With 875 square metres of open-plan exhibition space, the Forestry Hub was a major exhibit at Mystery Creek Fieldays, the largest agricultural show in the southern hemisphere.

Exhibiting here is a crucial opportunity to engage with the public and celebrate the wide-ranging work of the forestry industry.

We were asked by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and the Forest Growers Levy Trust to create engaging displays to tell the diverse stories of the forestry industry from across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Approach
We wanted every visit to the Hub to be a journey through forestry across the motu, starting with an exterior display of Aotearoa’s varied forest landscapes.

Inside, we created clear and intuitive pathways to guide visitors through displays of forestry’s contribution to the economy, biodiversity and biosecurity, forestry on farms, developments in technology and more. We also supported a number of individual exhibitors, designing background walls, information stands, collateral and giveaways.

Outcomes
Visitors to the Hub had the opportunity to learn about the many and varied opportunities in forestry. By welcoming visitors to come in and learn more about forestry, the Hub also contributed to helping shift some of the perceptions of the industry, including its role in tackling climate change, improving biodiversity and biosecurity, as well as economic and technological developments.

The Hub has received positive feedback from the industry and is now in its fourth iteration.

Beginning the journey
We wanted to make the exterior stand out in a sea of huge white marquees, which was achieved with a montage of forestry photography from across Aotearoa New Zealand. We then designed wayfinding and information signage for the range of physical displays leading in to the Hub.

Getting into the detail
Every exhibitor brought something unique to their stands, and many of them needed some inspiration to make sure their stories were told with maximum impact! From exhibition stands to a series of metre-wide cubes showcasing different uses of wood, we made sure each exhibitor gave their visitors a new experience.

Illustration and animation
The range of topics covered social, economic and environmental concerns, so it was a great opportunity for us to use our illustration and animation skills to bring some of the messages to life!
